Free crochet pattern for beginner
This year went by so fast we are already in August! Thankfully, it’s still summer, and it’s still not too late to make this quick and easy summer project. The Take Me Out sunglasses pouch is made using the thicket stitch, and it’s a good leftover yarn buster since it doesn’t require a lot of materials and you can combine colors. Let’s get making!
Level: beginner
stitches you need to know: single crochet, double crochet, thicket stitch.
Materials:
leftover yarns, I use Anette Eriksson eco-cotton xl in ecru and 4 season marvel in Sea Green
5.75 mm crochet hook
Darning needle
Scissors
Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch(s): chain(s)
yo: yarn over
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
sp: space
slip stitch: slip st
Special Abbreviations:
thicket stitch: work sc 1 and dc 1 into the same chain, sp 1 (skip 1 ch)
Gauge: 7 cm x 7 cm square = 4.5 stitches wide x 6 rows tall in thicket stitch.
Pouch size: 8.5 cm width x 18.5 cm length
Note: we will work in the round so we minimize joining/stitching the edges
Foundation chain: ch 20, slip st to the first ch, ch 1, do not turn
Base: sc 20, slip st to the first sc, ch 1, do not turn
Row 1: thicket st across, slip st to the top of the first sc (20), ch 1, turn
Row 2: thicket st across, slip st to the top of the first sc (20), ch 1, turn
Row 3: thicket st across, slip st to the top of the first sc (20), ch 1, turn
Row 4-12: repeat row 3 (20)
Row 13-16: change color, repeat row 3 (20), fasten off
Join the bottom by stitching/seaming it together
Making the drawstring:
ch 60 (or however long/short you want it to be), fasten off. Insert the drawstring horizontally across the top of the pouch.
Voila, you have your very own Take Me Out sunnies pouch 🙂

This is such a cute little project! It used to know how to crochet when I was little – I may have to learn again!
Thank you, I picked up crochet one year ago, so you’ll have a really easy time picking it up again 🙂

This looks so cute! My grandma used to do crochet. I still have those baby frocks ,mittens, socks and a cap
Those are to be treasured! my grandma used to make blankets and bolster covers for me, she did with a sewing machine though, I think it’s called quilting.
Beautiful and brilliant idea, now I want it too! Too original!
Thank you, it’s very simple and easy to make!
This is super cute, thanks for sharing the videos!
Glad you like it 🙂
That pouch is so cute! I would actually knit a longer handle and make it a cross-body sunglass pouch with how often I’m fumbling around for mine.
That’s actually a brilliant idea. Thanks for the insight, you’re a genius!
hi Antoinette
I really enjoyed reading this blog. I used to crochet and knitt when i was a bit younger and really loved it. Haven’t done in quite some time now was it was good to read about it…
Maybe one day we challenge each other to a… ‘virtual crochet” contest, lol
Hello, wow I’d love to learn how to knit, looks so complicated with 2 hands. I’d be up for a virtual crochet session! I think I will disappoint in any sort of contest (never was good with competition) but promise I’ll be a good sport lol
I’ve been looking for new hobbies to pursue during quarantine and this post really piqued my interest on crocheting! You did an amazing job on creating that pouch and I hope to do that too! Thanks for your cool post!
Aww thanks! Please try it, I find crocheting relaxing and you come up with something pretty too. Win win
